Case Study: How the PGA Show Became a Content Goldmine for Flagd Golf

Savvy Social garners viral reel views for North County-based golf company, increasing followers and visibility across social media platforms

“What I hear from our customers is, ‘You guys do cool stuff on social media,’ and that’s the temperature check for me.”

-Troy Parish, Founder of FLAGD Golf

TEE BOX (An Introduction)

In the game of golf, having an accurate distance is crucial in preparing a player to select the correct club for each shot. Knowing the distance plays a pivotal role in strategic decision-making and maximizing the chance of hitting greens on the course.

From a competitive standpoint, greater distance allows players to reach the green in fewer strokes, thereby lowering a person’s overall score.

ROUND 1 (An Overview)

FLAGD Golf is a GPS distance-measuring solution that was established in 2018 by Troy Parish. The concept for his business came about through his golf play early on and especially later as a competitive junior golfer. “It was a pet peeve of mine to go to a driving range and not have an accurate distance,” he said.

With a career in technology, Troy began to think seriously about the distance disparity issue, knowing there had to be a way to fix it. The issue was also a pain point for golf course staff as they received complaints from customers about inaccuracies. He needed to figure out something that was simple, precise, and reliable, and he did.

Now he had a viable product, but how would he get it in front of a mass audience?

THE “ADDRESS” (Client Needs)

Troy was managing FLAGD’s social media from the get-go, but with FLAGD deployed at more than 400 courses, including 25 of the Golf Digest Top 100 Courses in America, he was ready to swing it over to a professional. What he wanted was to incorporate a more content-driven approach so his audience would show more interest. His current videos weren’t performing well and he wanted to focus on getting followers organically.

“I didn’t know what we needed or how to strategize that,” Troy said.

Enter Amy Checho, Founder of social media marketing agency Savvy Social.

“The initial challenge was figuring out the best way to capture video content for FLAGD’s Instagram page,” she said. “We needed a creative direction that involved the golf community.”

APPROACH TO THE GREEN (The Solution)

Troy hired Amy in 2021 to create more diverse and engaging social media content and increase FLAGD’s visibility across platforms to reach his target audience.

Amy traveled with the FLAGD team to the PGA Show each year to capture man-on-the-street-style content and videos. This tried-and-true technique engages audiences with authentic interviews and a B-roll of event attendees and experts.

For the next three years, they have worked together to create and produce viral video content on Instagram and Facebook at the annual PGA Show.

SCORE IMPROVEMENT (The Results)

When Troy first came on board, FLAGD had roughly 500 followers. That number has now more than tripled.

In addition, reels from the PGA Show have captured more than 120,000 views.

Savvy Social accomplished this by transitioning the company’s Facebook and Instagram accounts from static photos to dynamic, engaging content that incorporated videos and better captivated Troy’s audience.

ACE (Hole-in-one)

“I have complete confidence in Amy to get whatever she needs so that we have content to use throughout the year and when we get to the event, I trust her to do what I need her to. She’s great at communicating.”

“When I come to her with ideas, she’s open to integrating them into the content to help us understand what a concept will end up looking like.”

“She fits in with our culture with our company and represents the brand well.”

Savvy Social is expected to capture more content for FLAGD at the 2025 PGA Show and has recently been retained by the company for an additional project to target specific influencers and collaborators to expand the company’s reach.
